Okay it's a long shot but I'm hoping someone might know.

I've posted a long thread over on the Codemasters forum trying to get Lord of the Rings Online working, but to no avail.

I've installed the game before on this pc/operating sytem only a few months ago and it worked with no problems. I can't think of much that's changed software wise and no change to any hardware. Basically the problem I've got is : I install the game via disks and then when it loads up the patcher it just goes around in a loop with the little window saying "Getting Data Centers".

Heres a list of things I've tried so far :

Phoned BT, no problem with my internet.

Tracert to Lotro EU servers which seems to reach there fine.

Turned off Adware programs, virus programs and Router Firewall.

Disabled Windows 7 Firewall and also have allowed every .exe associated with Lotro through.

Editing the launcher config file to bypass any proxies.

Hard reset and Soft reset of BT Home hub.

Editing my windows Hosts file.

Installing Dotnet 1.1 Framework + update.

Running Lotro as Admin + in Windows Compatability mode.

Check Internet Explorer to make sure it's not set to "Work Offline"

Changed the DNS servers to see it that worked.

Disabling UAC.

Posted up a launcher log file, which shows "Underlying Connection Closed" error?

Spyware Scan/Virus Scan - nothing.

System/Router Time & Date all correct.

I'm clutching at straws here, but if anyone has any other suggestions?

Otherwise I think I'll try a reformat tommorow in case it's something undetected on my pc blocking it.

EDIT : OS Is Windows 7 64-Bit Ultimate.

Do you have another PC in your household you can try? Or a different router? Or try your PC on another connection?

That way the problem can be isolated.

Unfortunately not anymore, I recently sold my laptop :(

I do have an old Belkin router lying around, I will try with that but it will take me ages to figure out how to use it again, still worth a shot I suppose.

Well I tried to connect with the Belkin, got my login details from BT but can't connect with that for some reason lol.

Edit - This is what I'm getting btw :

Even the Dwarf looks unhappy :(

Download the latest client from the web and install it. I've tried from my DVD and it takes an age to patch even when it does start (which it won't if the patch servers are busy).

http://community.lotro-europe.com/full_client.php?

If that doesn't work or you've already tried it - how about other services such as Steam etc? Do they work? Have you tried running the Lotro launcher as an administrator?

Okay I'll give that a try, I've uninstalled and I'm downloading the client now... I'll post up in the morning when it's downloaded.

Have you got the siege of Mirkwood expansion? As that include latest browser etc etc.

Quite often a fresh install will fix it, did for me when I had connection issues. Also make sure all your virus software is set to allow LOTRO. Try resetting your IP to.

Otherwise I'm stumped. Ive seen that message when I log on but normally just before the browser does something useful...

I've completely uninstalled all virus software etc, reinstalled 4 times now to different locations. I have the pack with the original game + Mines of Moria, 5 hours left of the download, I'm just praying my connection doesn't reset before morning.

I'm using a download manager but the file has no resume capability :(

Damn, I had high hopes for it but installed the full Mirkwood package just now and it's exactly the same, gets stuck at the Data Centers bit..

This might be a long shot but you have selected your country as in uk and not usa on your account, and on your client im sure i had this and thats what it was.

I used to play a couple of years ago, so my account is already set to UK. I have installed on a borrowed laptop and it works, so that rules out my internet connection, I think I'm just gonna reformat the pc - by the time I actually work out what it could be I could have everything back on it.
