Just started playing the game and I am loving it, great community, playability, graphics and everything else.

Anyhoo I was wondering if there are any classes/specs in the higher levels which are less represented?

Played a few classes and have liked pretty much everyone I have played so I am not fussed which I take to a higher level. BUt to be honest I would rather play a less represented class/spec than be one of X million Champions when there are no healers (just as an example)

So if anyone plays LOTRO and has some info I would be grateful! (Playing the Laurelian server)

Always see people asking for Minstrels and Guardians. I dont ever seem to see many burglars around at the higher levels either (I guess some would say thats kind of the point :D ), dont know if thats just me or not.

generally speaking people will be asking on the lff channel for healers, tanks, and random fillers, LM's are pretty widely represented, though groups need dps hunters and rk's are probably the most used classes at the moment, everyone in the entire world seems to be leveling a RK.

But it depends, often a hunter first, because the traveling time is massively reduced, is a great start along with explorer as a trade as you can level tailoring as you do it. Then as you do other alts you can jump on your hunter at regular intervals and bounce around the world in seconds gathering hide's and crit items to make the best armours you can get. Generally speaking armour and bonus stats from it are the most useful items you will get in the game and crafted crit items are easy to make, massive stats, hugely better than quest rewards up till the VERY late levels and help a lot.

With tailoring covering mistrels/rk/lm/hunter/warden/burglar for armour, it gives you a great starting point for making a rk/minstral for a healing second alt.

Quick question, i love lord of the rings in general, ive been playing world of warcraft for so long, would it be worth me trying it out ?, i mean i cant ask how it compares too wow because i doubt you can

You can get a free trial I think Anksy, I liked LOTRO far more than WoW when I played MMOs. Leveling in LOTRO was far, far harder though - granted I haven't touched LOTRO for over a year so perhaps it'd be easier now.

Anksy I just recently switched over from WoW myself and its the best gaming decision I have made in a long time, though for yourself it depends on what you want out of your MMORPG.

Personally for me its a bit of a challenge, game that looks nice, interesting classes and also with a nice community and I have found all those in LOTRO.

If what you like is an easy l00t fest with no real challenge then WoW is for you (Ok I am not the biggest WoW fan ;) )

But seriously I would recommend giving the game a try, whats the worst that can happen?

Personally im taking a break at 47 Minstrel, I have no doubt I will pick it up again at some point. As to rare classes, since the minstrel boost i see a lot running around - I would go guardian if you want a less played class. But having said that every group loves a minstrel.

How is it so fast levelling a Hunter?

mostly travelling, Rk is probably the quickest class to level in combat because of self heals, power boosts, damage and quite a bit of AOE and dots so when at full damage you can take multiple mob's, stick a DOT or two on them and move on.

But traveling from one end of the world to the other can take time, at first there were very few fast travel points but lots more have been added in game, even so hunters can simply pop between area's in a second and be leveling again. All the time saved add's up hugely by the end. But even after leveling, its the ease with which as a hunter you can gather crit parts and things to go craft armours for other characters that is so useful. Rather than logging a minstrel who was say IN moria and miles and miles away from anywhere useful, spending 20 mins traveling to somewhere to gather bits to craft for an alt, a hunter, presses a button and is in the right area in about 10 seconds, then ports to a crafting hall to craft and you're back.

Its just the most utilitarian class for those situations, likewise explorer is the best starter trade as you can sell ore/ingots/wood you gather on your travels, and turn hides into tailoring stuff easily. Again because of the speed boost in running out of combat, running between mining nodes and things is that bit faster, although more recently the Warden has a 25% speed boost, i've not played one high enough to know how good their mustering skill is compared to hunters ports, also not sure how good the Warden is as a class as not played with many high end content, and they don't really seem to fill any particularly roll perfectly like other classes do. Not to mention at least up to about 25 ish I think i got, they are boring as hell, 3 main attack skills in different pointless combo's, supposed to get better but early on its pretty much a borefest.

This is also because at certain levels and certain area's you can do be doing the lower level quests in 3 area's on opposite sides of the world and need to move back and forth quickly.

Also, for most classes but especially for the no in combat heals hunter, chosing human as the race, you end up with a racial heal later in the game thats worth 3k morale( a level 60 hunter will have maybe 4-4.5k morale on average) so opens up being able to take out hugely higher morale opponents who would normally kill you easily. Very little choice for hunters but human because of that. Shame my first hunter was a elf because I didn't know that, harder content, and killing elites, the difference the heal made was massive.
