I've never give LOTRO a proper go before. But lately I've wanted a new MMO to play and something casual friendly.

I'm downloading the trial client right now, what server are you guys on?

And tips for an easy class for a newb? Something easy to pick up would be great!

Thanks

I think most people are on laurelin, its classed as a RP server but that means squat to most people other than having a server full of nice people and tighter character naming restrictions.

Classwise, at least the the start of the game there's no real 'hard' class in my opinion as its not until the later parts of the game and in groups that using the right skills at the right time really matters. The basic damage dealing classes like champion and hunter though are probably the easiest to start with along with minstrel for being able to heal yourself.

Champion or Tank imo.

I'm a Warden, and let's just say, the Gambit system for the Warden class doesn't favour a lot of people.

Its gone down a bit recently but its still populated, just not super high numbers.

I would imagine that its a bit more empty currently, especially in the lower areas, due it being set to become free to play in September/October. So I'd imagine a lot of new people are waiting till then, rather than buy the game for just a month or two worth of play when they can wait a bit and get free access to pretty much the existing sub level 20 part of the game before reaching the pay to play content and same with old subscribers who will have free access to the expansions (most of the 50-65 level content) if they have already bought them just with slightly reduced features come the shift to free to play.

The hitching on this game drives me insane. Any idea what setting needs to be enabled/disabled to fix it? It's not a performance problem as I'm getting 100FPS.

I remember now, this is the reason I stopped playing last time. Looks like 10GB bandwidth wasted.

Yeah it's a well known problem with LOTR... When you walk, there is a 'jumpy' feeling to the graphics. Hard to explain, there's loads of videos about it on YouTube. Shame there doesn't appear to be a fix.

I had that problem years ago but oddly since moving to Win7 haven't, not entirely sure why though. I originally thought it was server-client latency but I'm on a worse connection now than then :p

When my mate tried the trial, he had it really bad too. Strange problem. Oh well.

Maybe its something to do with the trial client then? I seem to recall that the trial client downloads the graphics as you go so perhaps something to do with that?

I have everything max'ed out with AA and very high textures on the full client (dx10) and dont have the hitching (nvidia card) so I guess the trial client could be the issue.

find the lotr config file and make sure the fps is. Either 60 or 59 I had the same problem as you and this fix corrected it

I can't see a config file in my directory, any chance you could be a bit more specific please?

All's I can see is TurbineInvoker.exe.config and TurbineLauncher.exe.config
