Lots more spam emails in Hotmail

Recently I have been getting a lot of spam emails in Hotmail. They are somehow bypassing my spam filter and getting straight into my inbox.
If I even select the email in the desktop Outlook app it will crash Outlook (I guess Outlook basically 'opens' the email when you do this).

Has anyone else been experiencing this? Googling it shows that this was a problem back in June.

Any suggestions?

Same here, loads of spam since they broke the spam filter a month or two ago.

I have my Hotmail spam filter set to the strictest setting now - only whitelisted addresses appear in my inbox, the rest straight to junk. I check the junk folder once a week to make sure nothing important is in there - there rarely is.

What's worse is the significant amounts of ransomware coming my way - 33 emails last week alone with Locky files attached.
