Ive just built my first system, everything seems to be up and running, but when installing almost all programs/games etc from dvd im getting lots of crc and general data errors, forcing me to quit the install. Very annoying

My system is:

Asus p5qe
Ati 4870
E8400 duo
4x1gb ram OCZ
Vista 32 bit
Samsung f1 500gb hdd
Sony DRU 190a
Antec 900

Have installed bios update. Have installed windows updates etc

Could this be due to my 4 x ram?

Thanks in advance

Darren

Update 27th Nov

Guys I've checked the ram, changed the hdd, changed the dvd drive, changed all the data cables, so I thought it couuld only be 1 thing...the motherboard.

Bought new motherboard, fitted it last night, fitted everthing to it, installed vista 64 this time...........same problem while installing wow got to around 24% and threw up that same error msg "windows can not verify the content at C:\programfiles(x86)\worldofwarcraft\common.dat (or something along those lines), this could be a problem with your system or a problem with the drive at C:\"

What could be causing this? I really am out of ideas now :(

Update 28th Nov

SOLVED :D:D:D

Took all memory out and just left 1 x 1 gb stick in, installed my game no problem.....shame i didnt try this before i spent 300+ quid on replacement parts!

No worries tho because my mate wants to buy all spares for his 1st build.

Only problem i have now is I cant increase the ram over 1gb or the problem returns. I will put a post in the memory section so if anyone could help me set up the bios timings etc, please post in the memory post im about to make.

Thanks

You may need to up the MCH voltage (northbridge) .1/.2v.
Also check your memory timmings and voltage, this will be printed on the memory module.

Silly question, how come your using 4gb with Vista 32bit, 64bit would be better as this will utilise all your ram.

Thanks for the replies

Update:

I have now reduced the ram to 2 x 1 gb
Changed the graphics card (i was getting a few ati errors and it takes up 2 power cables, which left me 1 cable short for my fans) to a nvida 9800gt that i had.
I reinstalled vista and wiped the hard drive just to get a fresh start.
Bios is still 1406 which i beleive are the latest.
Installed all windows updates.
Downloaded and installed all latest drivers for all my hardware
Ran memtest86 for an hour - 3 tests passed, no errors.
Tried to run sumsungs HDutil to test hd drive but the program refused to work so i ran hard drive inspector instead - Reliability 82% (good) Performance 82 % (good) Error resistance 100% (good).
Changed the dvd cable to a one from a working system
Changed the dvd drive to a pioneer 111 from a working system

Still get the same problem, cant install anything from dvd :(

I have not tried to up the MCH voltage as suggested above, as i know nothing about that kind of thing, if someone could walk me through that I will give it a try

Thanks again for any help....I really want to get this sorted

Could be a hard drive issue, where did you get the Samsung Hdtil?

Try: http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/support/utilities/Support_HUTIL.html

There are both CD and FDD versions, just boot from the created media. If one doesn't work try the other, I burnt a HDTIL CD recently, worked fine.

If it passes the long test then it could be a damaged IDE header or channel on the motherboard.

I got HDutil form the same link as you just posted mate

Burned it to a dvd, booted it, and then i get a mesage when the program starts saying:

"'cant open cd driver cd001. SHSCDX cant install.'

'your ram drive is loaded at C:
out of memory error
bad command or file name"

:(

I may go buy a sata dvd drive this afternoon, at least if the ide port on motherboard is at fault then that should solve the problem? Although if it was the ide port that was at fault, surely it wouldnt work at all?

I should also mention that it plays dvd movies fine....

If anyone would like to help me via msn my addy is [email protected] theres a drink or two in it, via pay pal, for someone if they can solve this for me :)

It sounds more like a hard drive issue if you can play DVD movies.

I recently had a motherboard that wouldn't install Windows, the problem was the IDE channel, so it can affect things without totally not working.

I'll add you to msn and see if I can help somemore.

Hmm but is it not strange that the HD is faulty when its brand new? No worries, I shall go buy a new one now, see if that sorts the problem.

Thanks again for the help and advice, lets hope we can sort it

These things happen, might pay to try the Floppy version of the Samsung Hdtil before you purchase the new hard drive, especially as you've had problems installing from the DVD drive. If that doesn't work it also might pay to try a different SATA cable for the drive as well.

Can you try XP or 2000 just to verify or not the hardware?

If all is OK with a different OS then you are looking at a problem with a Vista component.
