I've just hopped on to Google Analytics and was initially pleasantly surprised by a pretty big increase in hits. After looking past the initial figure, 536 were direct and 567 were referrals. Some of those are real but the majority are not and it's skewing our other stats up massively: the bounce rate for direct acquisitions is 97.39% with an average visit time of 1 second on our homepage.
Now these are direct so I obviously have no idea where they're coming from. The majority of referrals however are from 4webmasters.org (341) with a few along the lines of site4.free-share-buttons.com with different subdomains.
Any idea what on earth is going on here and how I can (and whether I should) block them (especially the directs)?
