Lotus returns to Indycar

Sadly it's a customer car. More interestingly is the consideration to bid for the engine supply. What with? It makes the Group Lotus tie up with Cosworth sound a lot more interesting. Lotus badged Cosworth engines based on Toyota blocks?

I'd love for them to enter with a Lotus built chassis, but given the last time that Lotus tried to enter Indycar *in 1985* the US Auto Club changed the rules and effectively banned their car just as it nearing completion. The car was designed with a full carbon composite chassis and there was a decision to ban full carbon tubs for the 1985 season.

As such the only existing car has never been fired up. It's still owned by Classic Team Lotus - Clive Chapman was hoping to get it running at some point when I chatted to him about it a couple of years ago.

I'm more interested in the tales of Lotus going back to Le Mans - Given what Colin Chapmans feelings on it was the last time he went there with the Lotus 23 in 1962 - I believe the words "cheating french bar stewards" *or something along those lines* were heard more than once. He decreed that Lotus never again race at Le Mans.
