Loud buzzing noise...

Ok so my MSI GTX560Ti makes a very loud buzzing noise, which gets progressively quieter over 4/5 minutes until it disappears all together. As it heats up perhaps?

It seems to be getting worse by the day, louder and for longer.

Today I tried stopping one of the fans with my finger and the noise stopped instanly, and stayed quiet even after I let the fan spin up again. It doesn't sound like the sort of noise a fan would make if it was catching on something.

Bizarre..

Anyone ever had anything like this?

I think you hit the nail on the head. I rememberer my HIS ICEQ X1900XTX, it had a similar problem, like you I thought that doesn't sound like the fan, but once I opened it up, it was.

My one ended up getting pretty loud but after taking to the fan casing/shroud with a heated knife to cut the plastic of the shroud immediately next to the fan blades the noise disappeared.

If it is the same problem as mine then try not stopping it, but gently press down/up with a cover of a bic pen to the center of the fan blade ensuring the fan continues to spin, I can only best describe it as the fan blade drools out of its socket :D so it starts slapping the shroud

The noise was annoying but never affected the performance. Is the card under warranty. Get a custom cooler if not.

i had this on a 5850, taking the card apart and re-greasing the sleeve bearing in the fan fixed it.

Thanks for replies.

I've tried to contact MSI so we'll see what they say. I *think* it's still under warranty.

If nothing comes of that, I'll have a crack at the fan as suggested.
