I understand that after a certain time (10?) You can get the police at your door if neighbors complain about noise. What would happen if the police knock at your door but because your music is so loud you don't hear them?

Would they knock the door down or what? I understand there are some police or at least wannabe cops (PCSOs and the like) on this forum, i was wondering if they knew. I did try to look on google, but no matter how i typed it in, i got no meaningful results.

Simple answer - they do nothing in the short term.

Well i've had police come to a front door before because of loud music, not my house a friends. The door was unlocked due to it being a party with people coming in and out and the police just sort of walked in and told us to turn the music down lolol. I was wondering what would happen in the scenario of them turning up but nobody opening the door. Would they just have to move on?

They just turn around and walk off.
They also do the same if they are after a criminal and nobody answers the door.

From my experience with a noisy neighbour in the flat below, the police won't be interested in the slightest, the environmental health department won't be interested and the local council won't be interested either!!!

If they have reason to believe the criminal is in they'll knock the door down, but in playing loud music, am I a criminal that would warrant the same attitude?

Yeah, but you're from Beverly Hills so it is probably different there.

so i can blast it up until 10pm can i? i'll make my neighbour aware of this the next time he comes knocking on my door of a saturday afternoon saying ''it's a bit loud''. i have yet to tell him that i find his kids banging out ''we're walking in the air'' on their piano at 6am on a saturday morning ''a bit loud'' too. god bless terraced houses.

The Anti-social Behaviour Act 2003 amended the Noise Act 1996 and enables local authorities in England and Wales to tackle night time noise emitted from dwellings and gardens between the hours of 11.00 pm and 7.00 am. To enforce these powers local authorities must ensure that an environmental health officer takes reasonable steps to investigate complaints about noise emitted from dwellings. If the officer is satisfied that noise exceeds the permitted level, a warning notice may be served on the person responsible. If the warning is ignored, the officer may issue a fixed penalty notice of £100, enter the dwelling and confiscate the noise making equipment (obstructing confiscation carries a fine of up to £1000), or prosecute (fine up to £1000). In Scotland similar action can be taken under the Anti-Social Behaviour (Noise Control) (Scotland) Regulations 2005.An extension of the Noise Act came into force in February 2008, enabling local authorities in England and Wales to tackle night time noise from licensed premises.

DO YOU REALLY need to blast it out? or are you deaf?

police will do **** all, in fact no one will unless its a pattern of noise after a certain time, which you have to record and hand over to environmental health

I thought unless they have a warrant then they can't do squat?

I've watched a ****load of cop programmes done in the UK and they will kick down an obstruction if they believe a wanted criminal is behind a door. I think to search a property regardless of the suspect being present requires a warrant but if the main aim is to capture a suspect then the police have practically no restrictions. If the programmes don't tell the audience everything then i might not be true, but i'm pretty sure that's how it is.
