Thought I'd finally make a thread about this since I'm starting to get sick of this noise that's coming from the rear case fan in my computer. The problem's existed for about 9ish months now, I made a thread back in March but never followed up on it since it wasn't really bothering me then. When I first boot up my PC after it's been of for a few hours (for instance in mornings), I get a loud noise coming from the rear fan of my case. It's quite loud and almost sounds like it's grinding. I originally thought it was my PSU until I replaced that and found the dilemma was still there. The sound would persist until I had booted and restarted the system enough times to essentially "warm it up" and then the noise would stop. Since I've now discovered what the problem is, I usually poke something into the small holes at the back of the case which stops the noise. Could I just buy a new fan and replace it? I've never done it before... would it mean taking the whole PC apart?

if you're sure it's the rear fan, then yes, replacing it would help.

most stock fans that come with cases are meh...

what also helps a bit is to have the fan on silicone mounts instead of screws.

what case are we talking about? in most that I owned, I could replace the rear fan only with taking down the side panel.

try to run the PC with the rear fan uplugged and then plugged in, if it makes a difference.

Once you confirm it's the rear fan, you can take actions. also, as said, check if there's nothing obstructing the blades.

Yep, I had this exact problem once. On boot up it was catching a loose wire. 30 seconds later, no noise. I guess once airflow established it was blowing it away, then it was falling to rest on it again :)

Sorry bit of a noob question; where is the plug header for this rear fan?
