Loud PS3

Very recently my ~ early 2008 PS3 has been getting really loud, even when playing DVDs its on full fan.

Should I just open it and clean it out or could it be new firmware etc?

Do the trick with the fans to blast the dust out, turn off the power at the back, hold the eject button I think, then turn the power on, keep holding it and the system will go mental with the fans.

It will do this for 20-30 seconds then power off, then turn it off at the back and back on again.
