Louis Theroux Dark States

Quite shocking to hear the number of people turned into heroin addicts because they got hooked on prescription drugs, especially one girl who started stealing her grandparents medication when she was just 12 years old.

Certainly not one of his greatest shows. Watchable none the less. More-so looking forward to the next two episodes.

I thought it was good, but I would have preferred him to speak to a few more people looking for solutions and critically from the medical / pharmaceutical angle.

I quite enjoyed it. It's crazy how bad drug addiction seems to be in America having seen other shows on the subject. I can't believe they used to be able to get OxyContin on prescription

That's a good point, the Sakler family that manufacturer Oxycontin are now one of the richest families in the US. Would have liked to see them visit the town Louis was filming in, and see what they had to say for themselves.

I always find Louis Theroux's documentaries interesting tbh, his way of wiping the smile off someone's face with a seemingly innocuous question never fails to please me. The drug addict/dealer who didn't have a care in the world, whilst living in a tent, wasn't so happy by the end.

I was surprised by how open people were with him, felt sad for some of the people on the show after hearing their stories and the situations they are currently in.

I was generally surprised by Curtilia, when you see most of these shows and pictures of heroin addicts you can tell straight away but she looked normal considering how much she was using.

Not sure why people are surprised by how open people are with him.... that's the trait which has made him a great presenter (or documenter or whatever you want to call him). He can get people to open in ways they never normally would.

Just watched the third episode regarding Milwaukee District 5. Jesus Christ it's out of control there! the gun crime and battle with blacks and the police. No permit required for a purchase of a firearm in that state. America truly is a ****** up place.

sounds very similar to the recent Channel 4 The Gun Shop, may still be on catch up, purchase was just as mundane as a new mobile phone.

He's fantastic and it's also strange as he comes across quite awkward at times and he's self admitted to being socially awkward.

The 3rd episode in this series was my favourite, it was an absolute eye opener to how incredibly bad gun control is in the US, you have people driving around the streets just popping shots off, gun crime pretty much every single day in an area that is quite small in the grand scheme of things and a police force who doesn't either have the authority or introspect to get any kind of grip on the situation.

Yep, so different to over here. Was watching Gordon Ramsay's program on cocaine, it's way worse in countries like Honduras also. Crazy.

I've been watching some of his older documentaries recently. He's certainly got a talent for being disarming and getting people to open up, like you say. It's very evident in his dealing with hardcore prison population.

I watched the Jo'burg one where he follows the private police last night. Sometimes I wonder if he's brave or just plain silly. The Law & Disorder in Philly one was an eye-opener too. :p
