Louis Theroux

To be honest I couldn't see a problem with what they do out there.
Like they say, it's no different to a slaughter house - except with this the money is being spent breeding endangered species.

The meat is apparently being used, so I dont see a problem with it.

Only thing is, the animal probably experiences more pain having both lungs/heart punctured by a metal bolt than at a slaughter house where it's a bolt gun to the head.

Who knows..?

Was it a new one?

New to me, was on BBC1 last night.

What I found psychologically interesting was the woman who had no interest in hunting or killing animals but when she eventually had a go her face lit up.

But she didnt oppose it before hand. If anything she was pro hunting before she went, she'd accepted it in her husband. She'd also said she isn't upset by it. I guess you're either naturally a hunter, or you arent. There's not really an inbetween.

I liked when Louis said "theres not much skill in hunting, even a 5year old can do it".

I really think some of those "hunters" have issues and are boderline crazy. How they were cheering each other "LOOK WHAT I GOT !!!" ....whooaaa the hunt was so hard you in your vehicle with telescopic sights KUDOS !!!.

I've just watched it back - you're right.

I don't understand how they were so happy to have killed such 'beautiful beasts', it's not like that actually had to hunt them as such, just drive up to them and shoot them. Silly yanks

I'm not anti-hunting my any means and would happily go on a real hunt but what they do there is pretty sad and boring.

If you're going to hunt something stalk it for hours properly so it has a chance to outwit you, don't drive up to the poor thing in a semi-captive environment which takes no skill or effort.

After all to hunt by definition means to chase or search, I don't think being taken by car or waiting in a hide on your backside counts.

Silly little men.

Didn't have a problem with the "hunting" last night, the animals are reared to be hunted so not endangering any species. What I did have a problem was the fact they didn't actually hunt anything. It was just like the animals were on a conveyor belt and the people got drove to the points to shoot at the animals.

That american guy was an abysmal shot also. Haha.

Good overall though.

From the documentary, it seemed like the ranch owners were having a positive effect on the countryside and the wildlife. The animals were being eaten and I'm sure the method of death is more humane than what goes on in an abattoir. I bet their parks have a much better impact on the environment than the cattle farms they replaced too.

Still, the people who wanted to hunt the animals came across as a bit crazy. Sport is rewarding because of the challenge. There didn't seem to be any challenge in killing these animals. It all seemed a bit pointless. Did they feel the need to kill in order to validate their manhood?

It was an unfortunate paradox that in order for the population of certain species to grow they have to bread for "hunting" purposes.

I agreed with all the arguments the game keepers made, plus they seemed to be genuinely concerned that animals shouldn't suffer, even the one who wouldn't let them film "hunting" on his land

I felt a bit let down by Louis last night. He usually offers an alternate view or an insight into a world that's difficult or impossible to learn about. Last night he was desperately looking for an "angle" but it just wasn't there. The exchange with the farm owner on the overhead walkway illustrates the point wonderfully. "Do you not feel bad for killing these animals" "No Louis, its a different culture" (I paraphrase). Louis requested to see the Lions *again* presumably because they have the greatest "wow" factor for a northern European audience but as the farm owner pointed out, he already had 2hrs of footage, there was nothing to gain by revisiting them. The phrase "clutching at straws" springs to mind ;)

I agree that the American "hunters" were just shooting fish in a barrel but if that's what the punters want then its in the interest of the land owners to provide it. I'd imagine there are other farmers offering more "authentic" experiences but that's not going to make for an interesting hours worth of TV! The farms he visited guaranteed plenty of "whooping" and "hollering" yanks ;)

How anyone can watch Louis TheFool without cringing and wanting to throw something at the TV I don't know.
