Not really the power band suited to automatics though

I've never heard of an automatic but there may be specialists out there who could do a conversion.

probably the best option, years back, a friend of my fathers had a Sierra Sapphire Cosworth which was converted to automatic.

It looked like a factory job and was featured in "Performance Ford" magazine iirc.
