Just tried out 3DMark06 on my 8800GT 512mb a stock and E2160 @ 2.7ghz. I got 9628 marks so I decided to do some overclocking. Raised core to 700 and memory to 1000 but now I'm getting 8441 marks, less than my score at stock. What's up with this?

I have an e2180 @ 3.2ghz and an 8800gt at it's pre-overclocked speeds of 650/950/1625. I score 11400 if thats any use. I also have 4gig

Is your 8800gt running at x16 pci-e ?

AFIAK your 3D mark score will plumet if there's any instability in that o/c, im not an expert on 8800GT's but i thought that 700 core without a fair bit of work, was pushing it. Have you run fur test or another GPU stress tester to check the o/c is stable? Also 3d mark can some times just be weird, try say 650 core and stock mem and see what that does to your score on the basis if it goes up from your stock the first oc is probaly unstable.

700-720MHz is usually the cut off point for an 8800GT without voltage mod... mine (with the 1.1vmod) is running 742MHz and can pass 3D Marks 06 at upto 771 - but randomly locks up in games at that high.

Surely if the OC was unstable 3DMark won't run? I'll leave it on an overnight ATiTool and see if it artifacts.
Edit: After reducing memory back to stock 900mhz I did a 3DMark run and got 10190. Does that sound about right?
