I just got this computer

Q6600 @ 2.4
4gb ram 800mhz reaper
9800gtx ocx 512mb
Dfi lan party x38 motherboard
750w power and cooling power supply.

22inch monitor

So today i just updated my windows and drivers using 74.74drivers,windows vista home premium 64bit without sp1,testing at 1280x1024 resolution with control panel driver settings at default(only the fan is overclocked) .

My 3d mark 06 score is only 9927 in which i am assuming is to low for the kind of system i have.

Vista scores : cpu = 5.8
ram = 5.5
Graphics on aero = 5.9
Gaming graphics = 5.9
Hd = 5.7

So i just tried re-installing drivers but nothing worked.
I launched team fortress 2 to test my cpu and something turned out nasty. The cpu is staying at 1.8ghz all the time even when a game is launched (suppose to be 2.4ghz) and second my first core and my second core where sitting at something like 70 degress.

Do you think that the reason my computer is getting a low 3dmark06 score is because of the cpu overheating and downclocked? 3dmark06 reported a cpu score of 2758... is this good?

my bro has the same system but with the dfi lan party motherboard a step lower then the x38 i have.

His cpu is also staying at 1.6 and not overclocking to 2.4ghz but his temperatures seem normal unlike me.

I think the problem with my cpu staying down clocked is that i need to change some settings in the bios and the heat is probably because of the bad fitted cpu cooler .

Looks like your multiplier needs manualy setting in the BIOS to 9, also check the settings for EIST & C1E (Intel speedstep) this lowers the multiplier when the CPU is idle and raises when stressed.

Your temps are to high, check your HSF are installed properly.

Il try to fix the hsf

Right know i can not risk increasing the ghz of my cpu since my computer will just fry :)

From some testing i found at that probably the thing about my cpu and ram staying at 1.8ghz and 400mhz(ram) is because of a bios setting. The cpu overheating is more of a heat sink bad installation

Hey guys So i am back with an update

Fixed my overheating problem . - All it was a bad temperature reading.Bios needed an update and its now sitting at happy temps (CPU)

Fixed my under clocking problem - Just changed the multiplier of the cpu to x9 and over clocked my cpu to 2.8ghz

Ran a 3dmarko6 and got these results
3d mark = 12650
Sm2.0 = 4867
Hdr/Sm3.0 = 5889
Cpu score = 3791

Do you think this is a pretty good score for my system specifications?

9800gtx ocx (Factory clocks)
Q6600 @ 2.8GHZ
4gb ram dual channel @ 800mhz
Dfi x38 board
750w ocz psu

^^^ as above. You'll get a bigger jump in 3DM06 score from overclocking the CPU than from overclocking the GPU. With reasonable air cooling you should get to 3.0 - 3.2 without too much trouble but the 4gb ram may hold you back a bit so don't push too far.

Also, set NVCP to "Performance" and stop all useless background tasks. That will also helo to improve your 3DM06 score and e-peen.

Cpu-z is reporting that my Ram is running @ 400mhz (dual channel) . Even when i run a stress test the ram stays @ 400mhz. This is bad right? Since my ram is an 800mhz reaper. Even the timings seem low @ something like 6-6-6-15 :S

Can this be fixed from the bios?

Your answer is in your question, its 400mhz dual channel so 400x2=800 :)
Its perfectly fine and normal

Ok now no more problems at last! Always been unlucky when buying new pcs and hardware especially with the creative xfi...nightmare in itself.

Thanks for the help. The only way i can improve performance now is by over clocking my cpu a little bit more.My temperature goes up to 56 deg at max stress testing with everest (100%) so i think i am stuck with a 2.8ghz clock :(

The timings are not normal, 6-6-6-15 for 6400 ram ? NO, 4-4-4-12 and most good rams will run it even at something like 4-3-3-12 or 4-3-3-10.

And LOL this score is low men, anything less than 14-15k for machine like this is low ;p.

I wasnt referring to the timings, I was reassuring him that he is running DDR but I do agree the timings are off

As for 14-15K, I have a similar setup and getting 13-14K, so 15K is a little too much to ask without further overclocking :)

Is there a specific programm to really check my timings? i need another program to be safe.

How can i change my timings?

Bdw today ran a 3dmark and go about 13.1k. I leave my antivirus on when bench marking and my nvidia options are not set to performance but all defaults with the "let it decide" options

Just checked my timings and they are pretty damn under clocked :(

Cpuz is reporting
A frequency - of 400mhz with dual channel enabled (symmetric),
FSB:DRAM - 3:4
Latency - 6-6-6-18.

My latency seems to be pretty much under clocked. What the hell is up with dfi motherboard under clocking your hardware below the defaults :S . Do i just need to change the ram latency from the bios? Sorry never did ram overclocking.
Aren't these under clocked latency effecting my performance even on a 2.8ghz slitghly over clocked cpu

My Ram specs:

Ocz reaper x 800mhz pc-6400 4gb kit
Frequency 800mhz
Latency 4-4-3-15

yep, high timings change a lot.

If it says on your sticks 4-4-3-15, set it to that manuall, I would even go for 4-4-4/3-12 with 6400 reapers. Just make sure you give them 2.1 or 2.2volts as OCZ loves voltage and most mobos set it to 1.8 by default.

Also im not sure about your FSB/mulitplier, is it 300x8 by default ?
Anyways try to make it working in 1:1 with ram, your best bet will be 400x7, and work your way up from there, your ram should be able to reach 420-430fsb on 4-4-4-12 without big probs which will put you at 3ghz with 1:1 cpu:ram ratio and ram working on wonderful 860mhz 4-4-4-12 timings :).

PS. Not sure what cooler you got but getting Tuniq tower with MX-2 paste might help your temps a bit if you dont have it yet.

If you wont get at least 12,5-13k pts with this then please throw your PC out of the window and get new one.

OR hammer it ;p.
