Hi there,

I just bought a opteron 185 as I thought my opty 146 was slowing down my 8800 GTS.

Put in the new CPU and booted up as normal - shows correct in CPU-z. BUt when I run s3mark 06 i get a socre of about 5600. Does this seem very low to anyone? Spec is now as my sig.

thanks for any assistance.

Your RAM spec is very slow, whats your CPU/FSB speed? though singlecore will be slower than dualcore in 3dmk06

I found that 3dmk06 doesn't go much faster with a g80, probably because the hardware isn't being fully used. I first had a gts then got a gtx & my score went up by only 300points lol :p

apprciate my RAM is not the fastest but surely it should hold it back that much??

not overclocked anything at the moment. CPU is 2.6 and FSB at the moment 200.

the breakdown of my score is as follows and comparing on the futuremark site against similar systems the SM 2/2 scores are way lower :confused:

3DMark Score 5636 3DMarks
SM 2.0 Score 2400 Marks
SM 3.0 Score 2248 Marks
CPU Score 1926 Mark

this is the comparison with similar systems - something is clearly wrong here?

its the ram its way too slow
the cpu isnt getting enough information fast enough and so the gpu is just sitting there with nothin to do waiting for the cpu

just edited my sig as had a typo in the RAM description. Would this now be causing such a slowdown/bottleneck?

That score seems very low, thats nearly the same as mine with a X1950 Pro.

Would suggest making sure vsync aa and af are turned off, reinstall drivers last resort format fresh install :confused:

hmmm just changed tne nvidia control panel to make sure v-sync, AA and anitstropic filtering are all off and still i get the same score :confused:

the only things I can think of are that I have the card in the second slot down on the motherboard but they are both PCI-e 16x slots so wouldn't have thought this mattered?
http://us.dfi.com.tw/Product/xx_pro....jsp?PRODUCT_ID=3471&CATEGORY_TYPE=LP&SITE=UK

Also my monitors native res is 1680x1050 and doesn't have 1-1 pixel mapping so the default settings of 1280x1024 mean the pictuee is stretched?

What card did you have in your system previous to the 8800?. Also did you eradicate all traces of ANY drivers before the installation of your card. I've seen similar results and a format and new installation have helped.

Is it a fresh installation of windows?. XP or Vista.

I don't think the stretching of the screen will be the cause of anything.

You deffo have a problem though as my score below is a little bit better than what you have now. You should be about 8,000+ points for the card and your system.

thanks for the help guys but have now managed to sort it thankfully. The reason was the card was in the second slot down on my m/board which was causing the PCI-e slot to be running at 2x instead of 16x !!

Now scoring 8,400. now to start overclocking and see what I can hit.....

thanks again.

For comparison/reference my below spec beats your 06 score and the base spec is similar;

144 Opteron @ 2.7GHz
1GB Crucial 3200 DDR
X1900 Pro

I've recently upgraded to 2GB (Geil) and it's gone up even more.

edit: just realised you found the problem in the post above! :D

Good post as it gives me an idea of how quick my system will be with an 8800. :)

Good to find the problem, though I thought the g80's could only run with 16x.

I don't think using 3dmk06 to determine how fast a DX10 g80 is, may be a good idea, as I found new game performance is a lot more interesting:
ie.

3dmk06=8000 http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=83520
aquamark=110,000
x3 bench=54fps
nfsc=23fps
vegas=50fps
cell factor=14fps

8800gts (630/2000) -sorry not tested with current gtx yet.
3dmk06=9331 http://service.futuremark.com/compare?c=2904865_1
aquamark=110,000
x3 bench=54fps
nfsc=74fps
vegas=95fps
cell factor=45fps

Based on those game improvements my 3dmk06 score should have rose to 22000 'ish :D

We have yet to see DX10 go :cool:

23FPS for NFSC :s, that really cannot be right too, I run at 1440x900 and all max settings in NFSC with an X800XT PE and my avarage fps is around 30fps...

Hmmm my 3dmark 06 score was 5813 with my 8800GTS 640mb, guess its coz my CPU gets a low score.
