low c2d now, high penryn later?

in a mont or twos time i'm going to be finally upgrading my skt939, planning on geting a P35 board. my question is should i get a low end c2d now and get a decent quad when the penryns finally show their faces or get a quad xeon/c2q now?

gaming, video encoding, 3dsmax rendering, stuff like that

I upgraded from Socket 939 not long ago, I had an Opteron 146-148. I now have an E6600, now my video encoding is twice as fast. If your an avid gamer and going to be playing Crysis when it comes out then you will most likely need quad core as I read somewhere how good it runs with quad (just type crysis quad core in google)
And Crysis is out before christmas (hopefully ) I haven't had my E6600 long but in two weeks I'll sell it and get a Q6600 and an 8800gts. I can't wait to see the video encoding times that thing produces

Then in a couple of months maybe I'll upgrade to penryn

I jumped to a P35 with an E2140. (from a 4400+ 939)

Clocked the 2140 to 3ghz and it's happy as larry. A better all round performer and cheap. Will easily last till Penryn.

Yeah, I had an e2160 and it did 3GHz easily and kept up with my e6600 in games.

If I was building a new system, I'd choose it over most chips except a quad.
