Costco are running the following mobile deal (through a company called Unity and on the T-mobile network):
24 month contract
No line rental at all
Minimum £7 per month spend (incl. VAT)
30 mins free calls to UK landlines included per month
Calls to UK Landlines - 5.88p per min (5p + VAT)
Calls to other T-mobile users - 7.64p per min (6.5p + VAT)
Calls to other UK networks - 19.98p per min (17p + VAT)
Text messages - 6.46p each (5.5p + VAT)
Voicemail - FREE
Customer services - FREE
Itemised Billing - FREE
International Call Saver - FREE
It's clearly aimed at the low cost / low usage user and I'm considering it for my wife who is on O2 PAYG at the moment topping up £10-£15 per month. Most of her calls are to landlines, which would effectively give 150 minutes (30 free + 120 at 5.88ppm) for the £7 per month minimum. Even the cross-network cost would be half the (frankly ridiculous) 40p per minute on O2 PAYG.
You actually have to pay a bit for the phones e.g. Nokia 6230i for £40 but that's still £60 cheaper than on PAYG so it is subsidised a bit. I know the 24 month contract is a bit long, however bear in mind this is aimed at people who don't want a new phone every 6 months...
So, has anyone else had any experience of this deal and/or see any major downsides which I've missed?
