Right first off, I know this looks bad. I also am slightly worried about how long it'll last, heat given off from the drives. But until I decide what system I want to build a nas in, I wanted something to do some testing on.

Images are not the best, as I just wanted to take some pictures as I was about ready to turn it on.

I have run out of sata cables, rather than steal 2 from other computers which will be needed sometime soon. I made use of what I think is from a C2D system, around 2007.

Ok so spam over. Ish.

HDD Caddy of sorts, for two drives to fit in the front of a dell case. Made out of cardboard. There is some hard plastic I looking at outside, but it doesn't fold so would have required some cutting. (effort)

Lack of sata cables, quick thinking and some searching in box's around the place. Two unopened dual eSata back plates, with cables running back inside the case to serve harddrives at the front!

Oh I wanted to add, the cardboard is actually from a 7300gt I won from i32.

So you plugged two SATA drives into an old PC as a NAS? :p

Only recouping factor of the thread is the dodgy drive mounting. I predict in a weeks time a thread titles "I knocked my case over and the drives smashed everything!"

The point of the thread was the dodgy drive mounting!

There is four drives in it, and its running off the CF card in the front. This is more of a test than anything, also I've had one of my drives in my main pc die recently, I'm still able to access it sometimes running out of places to backup the files too. Which is one of the reasons for doing this in the first place.

I've got a r300 server in another room, did want the steal the raid controller from it but think money will be better spent on a new better system, if i'm able to sell the server.
