£400 AV amp and bookshelp spec help please

I'm planning to possibly replace my current setup with a proper AV set up.

Currently, I have a setup basically the same as a normal AV set up. Except where there is usually an AV amp, I have a Joytech AV Control Center (an AV switch) into which my DVD player and Freeview box plug into via composite and RCA; the audio from my PC also plugs in via a 3.5mm to RCA lead.

The AV box then goes to my Dell 2001FP, again via composite, and the audio goes out through an RCA to 3.5mm plug then through a female-female 3.5mm joiner to the 3.5mm plug of my Logitech £40 2.1 PC speakers.

So as you can see things could be a little more, well, elegant. I'm wanting an AV amp (with HDMI) and a pair of bookshelf speakers; 5.1 isn't really and option as it's from my tiny bedroom and the simply isnt space for 5.1, however I feel an AV amp would give me the HDMI switching options and would allow me to add extra speakers and a sub at a later date if/when I move all the gear elsewhere

Budget wise I'd rather stick under £400, I've been looking at a Cambridge Audio 340R for the amp, it has all the in's and out's I will need and looks more than a little bit slick. For the speakers, I am a little less sure; I don't really feel cheated by my current setup (I guess it's a 'what you don't have you don't miss' kind of situation) but I understand that a proper setup will show its value against this. I love the look of the Cambridge Audio S30's but I have a feeling those of you in the know will discourage me from them. I've also seen the Kef CRESTA 10's which I believe are what Raikiri has.

The main use of the amp will be for DVDs, then music from my PC coming a distant second

Anyone got any suggestions on the spec or even setup is welcome
