What is needed for a basic web browser laptop, with Linux? Should a 1ghz Celeron, 1GB of RAM be sufficient?

A mate has a Celeron laptop and really doesn't rate it that highly (slows down once you have AV) but with Linux I won't need AV so CPU and memory usage speed is less important?

I could get a Asus EEE PC, but once I add extra storage and more RAM looking at £300 range, which is 14/15" laptop range....and at least with standard rez and larger screen can browse and watch movies.

There's the Acer 5315
Intel Celeron-M 540 1.86GHz, 533MHz FSB, 1MB L2 Cache
RAM: 1GB DDR2 (Max Memory 2GB) Low cost double memory offer, call for details!
Hard Drive: 80GB Serial ATA 5400rpm
Screen: 15.4" Widescreen TFT (1280x800)
Optical Drive: DVD±RW Super Multi Double Layer
Graphics: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100

I just need to know if for light work this'll be ok, with Ubuntu.

Sister just got one.

Its not exactly light, but nothing too heavy.

Its fairly large, but thats because its slightly curved.

You can get the 120gb version for a little more.

From what ive seen, its a great laptop for price.

IBM Thinkpads are good low end laptops they are well made, you could get a T42 from auction sites for around £200 and from what I remember Ubuntu detects everything on install so no messing about trying to get it to work. I bought my mum one for web browsing.
