Low ethernet transfer speeds

Hi folks, I'm trying to transfer some Blu-rays I've ripped over to my Boxee box via ethernet but it only seems to transfer at around a max of 3.6mb a second, using the internet on top of that actually lowers it further to around 1.6 - 2mb a second, the setup is currently

Boxee Box (wired) -> Homeplug -> Sky router -> Homeplug -> Switch -> My PC

I'm guessing it's either going to be the homeplugs (not sure how likely that is) or a typically crap router from Sky (it's the black Sagemcom one, predecessor to the current N router).

I can extract the authentication info. from the Sky router to use my own so I'm planning to replace that first, any suggestions? Doesn't need to fancy, just min. 802.11g wireless and 4 ethernet ports.

Could it be that the speed and duplex port settings on the switch is set to either to autonegotiate or has been manually set (if this makes sense). This is what usually catches me out.

What homeplugs?
The Sky router i assume would have 100mbit ports which should see a theoretical throughput of ~10MB/s.
If you can test the boxee box plugged direct into the router and plug the router direct into the PC.

I had 500mbit homeplugs and i cant remember speeds of transfer over them but it wasnt that good so i got rid of them and ran in some CAT6 instead and now see 25-30MB/s when ripping Bluray to my ReadyNAS (limited by the ReadyNAS write speed).
