Low FPS in cod2 problem

hi all hoping for some advise.

freind of mine has just got a new rig spec is as follows

AM2 3800
Asus M2N32-SLI DLX nForce590
2Gb DDR2
Samsung Spinpoint 400gb SATA II
ASUS Geforce 7 7900GTX 512mb
XP Home
4mb NTL Ethernet connection

his old pc (pretty much same spec) could run cod maxed out with good fps and felt perfect. however since he had the new system he gets an almost constant 35-40 fps (it doesnt even increase if he looks at the sky) and the gameplay feels jerky and all wrong,

if he forces dx7 he gets exactly the same fps and jerkyness.

does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? or any ideas for things that he could try?

Update, he's also let me know that single player works maxed out in dx9 its only multilayer that is jerky.

also this happenes even on "optimal" settings, he has already applied all upto date patches including a punk buster update,

any help very greatly appreciated as i need him up and runing for clan matches :)
 
so the multiplayer and single player graphic settings are exactly the same.

i doubt it is this, but he could try changing the max fps if for some strange reason its at 40 :confused:

tell him when in the multiplayer game (not singleplayer) open up console and type "/com_maxfps 125" to set max fps to 125.

yup that was one of my ideas too, he has set it to lots of different things including 0 which is apparently "unlocked" i think he has uninstalled and reinstalled the game already as well which i would have thought would have cleared any problems
 
I have recently been getting this jerkynesss in Call of Duty 2 too

I'm putting it down to Infinity Ward needing to bring out the 1.4 patch :)
 
not really sure that it can be a patch problem as it only seems to be him and a couple of people who are experianceing this problem, my set up is quite close to his and i suffer none of the problems he does?

anyone have any other ideas before he has to resort to a full rebuild
