R5 2600 @ 4ghz and holding in games..
Gtx 1080 @ 2100mhz and holding in games
16gb ddr4 @ 3600mhz cl16
Monitor 1440p 75hz freesync

Gpu is under 100% load, cpu is sitting at 30%.. I know gpu bottle neck right.. But last week it was maxing the same games out and hitting the monitor from cap. It had a 3700x cpu last week but now 2600, the 2600 can't be that bad? Or can it.
Do I need to buy a 3600?

Fortnight, squads, gta, cod. Seeing drops to 24fps and stuttering like mad

DId you simply drop the 2600 in without changing anything in the bios, or did you full reset the bios and then adjust settings to the new CPU ?

Doesn't make sense to me as the 2600 can drive cards that are more powerful to higher frame rates, and I have not heard of it causing stuttering in games. Try as suggested above and check that cables are connected, eg cpu fan, but I doubt its thermal throttling
2600 is about 10% or so slower than 2600x I believe, no mention of stutter in this video

Is the ram stable as 3600mhz is quite high for a 2600? Maybe try dropping it to 3200mhz and see if that improves things.

The gpu is under a g12 and aio it games at 36c. I had a 1700x 12 months ago and that did ok. So when making the system I assumed the 2600 would be fine. I'm a little confused.

I'll try resetting the bios and see how I get on. I've ordered a 3600 that should be here tomorrow if I don't get any joy I'll pop that in and test but I would rather send it back.

So did a bios reset, put ram to ZMP 3200mhz and retested. was just the same.

pulled the 2600 emptied my poor student bank and ordered a 3600, and BOOM working perfectly.
GPU usage 70%, CPU usage 50% all gaming hitting the frame cap at 1440p max setting

At least it’s fixed. Does seem strange that there would be such a marked difference.
Yeah I could understand there being a difference if the GPU was something like a 3080 but even then I don't think it would be that bad.

For reference when I swapped from a 10 year old Xeon [email protected] to a ryzen 5 3600 the fps hardly changed using a gtx1070ti @1440p.
