Low fps?

I've had the Titan Valkryie a couple of days, I installed the 9.6 catalyst control center immediately and I get great FPS in COD4 and Eve maxed, however, I was expecting to be able to max L4D, which drops to around 45 FPS in hordes and drops pretty low on some levels. The CPU is at 3.2 ghz during games I have checked..
I'm only playing it at 720p on my HDTV... quite a low resolution.
Anyone got the same PC, if so, what FPS do you get on L4D and what settings are you using?

Surely this should be able to max L4D with ease?

:- Intel Pentium Dual Core E5200 2.50GHz Overclocked to 3.20GHz+
:- 4GB Kingston HyperX DDR2 1066MHz
:- 1TB Seagate 7200RPM Hard Drive
:- ATI Radeon 4850 512MB Graphics Card

Anyone got any ideas what's going on?
Thanks in advance.

l4d is cpu biased game. saying that are you using the lastest ati drivers?

have you checked multicore rendering is on in l4d?

Could be the CPU possibly...

I know someone who plays L4D on an E5200 with some overclocking and an 8800GT at 1440x900 and only place it drops to ~45fps is the petrol station exploding - they play on high settings but I'm not sure what FSAA.

45 sounds about right, the sweet spot for CPU based games is roughly 3.40GHZ+ so just try and clock your CPU a little more and it should help, oh and maybe another 4850 for cross fire, might as well they are dirt cheap right now.

Apparently i'll lose my warranty if I try and overclock, is this the case?

Check to see if it's overheating or not. My PC can sometimes dip in performance if it's getting hot.

I'm not really sure what "hot" is to be honest :p

Are these temps ok?

I managed to fix my low fps, it turns out that by enabling AA, I was causing loads of jaggies and low fps. Weird thing is, when I set AA to 0, I get no jaggies at all and constant 60fps. Weird, huh?

I was playing L4D tonight for a few hours, when I killed one zombie this time its textures stretched all over the place for a second, I played for another 2 hours and it didn't happen again, my temps are 51 degrees. Need I be worried? I have the settings in ATI Overdrive on max btw.

I have an e5200 and experience no slow down at all maxed out at 1920 x 1200 with full AA. Constant 60fps (with vsync on).

Sounds like you have the GDDR overclocked too high.. have you ran ATItools to test your graphics overclock?

Well done.
A 3.8Ghz CPU isn't going to bottleneck L4D at all.

Honestly though, without an FPS counter turned on, would you even notice a drop to 45fps? I'd consider that kind of framerate pretty acceptable.
