Before friday 7th September 2007, I had an IP Profile of either 2500kbps or 3000kbps (sync 3000-3500kbps, download speed 2.3-2.8mbps), however, early on friday 7th September, at about 1am BT started some maintenance work (which the ISP was not told about), and my connection simply ceased to pass data. I tried rebooting router etc to get it back (I was unaware BT was doing work), and by 3am failing to get it back went to bed, when I got up the next day, the connection was back on, but with a sync of only around 2000kbps with an IP profile of 1500kbps (download speed of 1.4mbps), I rebooted router again etc, but nothing would restore to previous sync speed.
I then rang ISP (KeConnect - ADSL Max - 8mbps service) on same day and told them about, so they said to leave it until monday 10th september to see if it had increased, however by monday it was still the same, so they got me to do a couple of tests, see if noise on analogue line (which there wasn't), and try to connect router directly to master socket (which I was unable to do as it is an old one with no test socket). Keconnect then logged a ticket with BT wholesale for an engineer to come out and check everything, which they did on thursday 13th September, anyway he plugged his router (and laptop) into my ADSL filter and ran a number of tests, he reported that he was getting a sync of over 3000kbps and a download speed of 2.3mbps (which is what I was geting before friday 7th september), he also rang up BT wholesale (I presume) and ran a whoosh test, which confirmed his figures, so I concluded that the problem lay with my US Robotics 9108 gateway.
I ordered a Netgear DG834G v3 on thursday and it arrived today, having set it up, the sync speed is around 3600kbps (from within router options), but having done a speedtest at BT Speedtester, it reports my IP Profile as still 1500kbps, and a throughput (Download speed) of just under 1400kbps, with a sync speed of 3616kbps. I also did a speedtest at thinkbroadband which gave a figure of 1.4mbps.
I have just flushed dns cache, but made no difference.
I have 2 desktop computers connected to the Netgear (as I did the US Robotics) and I get the same download speeds from each when doing a speed test.
I am at a complete loss as to why the BT engineer reported the figures I had before friday 7th september on thursday 13th september, but now with a new router, although I getting a correct sync value, the IP Profile is still 1500kbps.
What is going on here, and how do I fix it.....Completely Baffled!
Many thanks for your suggestions.
EDIT:
Have been looking at the firmware for the DG834G on Netgear site, it gives:
Version 4.01.30 (for outside NA) september 5th 2007
and
Version 4.01.28 (for UK) may 31st 2007
Which of these should I use to udate my firmware.
