low memory usage on GTX780

Hi all

Can someone tell me what is happening here.
My card only uses about 30% of its memory when benchmarking/gaming. My card is slower in all benchmark scores than other makes of GTX780's. is there something I need to do to get it to run at full capacity? I have tried changing settings in NVidia control panel and change windows power management to performance mode but to no avail. Here is a ss of the max readings while running heaven 4.0 benchmark it shows the maximum usage on the card. It clearly shows memory usage as only 1200mb, what is causing this.

Is this normal?

thanks for that...I have been looking in there and when benching mine is overclocked as well....but cant seem to get near other cards of similar make...maybe my card is a poor performer compared to other makes.

hi all....the card is not overheating, max temps running heaven 4.0 was 49 degrees. Fan speed was high because I set it high in my fan profile I do not have an unstable overclock as I get similar results even when not overclocking. For some reason my card only uses a third of its memory when gaming or benchmarking

as for rangerjr1....The "you must be new" comment is amusing seeing as it comes from someone who only joined these forums in September last year.

Also @ rangerjr1 are you saying all gtx780's are the same and so perform the same? Mine is the gtx780ghz edition which comes pre overclocked in other words it cant be the same core as all other cards as it is different from a gtx that is not oc from the start....I have overclocked a bit more on top of the factory oc and when I benchmark it, in no matter which benchmark I use...it performs well below other cards owned by people in these forums hence my comment that my card is maybe a poor performer.

That is with High Quality - my run was with Ultra. Theres usually only about 4-5fps average between them though.

Bare in mind in the benchmark thread people are often doing runs with settings, etc. they wouldn't use for every day gaming i.e. disabling background processes, CPU/RAM settings that might not be every day stable, OS priority tweaks and so on.

yea I noticed after I posted it....hence the removal...just benchmarked it at your settings and got this
Unigine Heaven Benchmark 4.0

FPS:
59.9
Score:
1509
Min FPS:
28.5
Max FPS:
126.5

a bit better than yours but still below the results showing in the heaven benchmark thread.

my question is ...is ian evey correct when he says the card only needs to use so much memory to run these benchmarks/ games...and if so does that mean it is the same for the people who are getting the higher scores in the heaven thread...or are they able to get the cards using it full potential for benching.

A program will only use the amount of VRAM it needs to store the data in its using to render from. The percentage of VRAM used on its own doesn't have any implications on performance.

i.e. a mesh is just a collection of x,y,z coordinates (and some other information in regards to what textures to use, etc.) and this is what is being stored in the VRAM.

then your probably right when you say there are probably other tweaks that the other guys are doing to get the higher scores.. My score of 1509 would get me in the top 105 but there are other gtx780 with much better scores....would like to know what to do to get mine better
