Hi,

I'd originally posted my problems in cpu section, I've had a Q6 at 3.6 1.3v for a few months now and all was well, I was toying with the new Ati tool and my 4850 when I noticed my benchies were down a heck of a lot (5k down on 06 ! ) running through everest, super pi, fritz I noticed my cpu was hitting roughly half or just over what it used to do.

I've followed the normal route, cleared cmos, checked and re checked o/c settings voltages etc. I've even reinstalled XP Pro SP3 and flashed my bios to the latest revision. all to no avail

now TAT is showing two cores at uneven speeds, one is showing as 3200 which is correct as per current bios settings 8 x 400, the other is showing as 1800 ? had it been 1600 ( half of 3200 ) at least I could have seen some logic, temps are fine, power is fine, b ut I'm at a total loss as to why this is happening, please does anyone have any ideas or has anyone had a similar problem ?

Thanks in advance

*edit* forgot to add eist / speedstep disabled

Maybe you should try putting it back to stock CPU speed to see if all the cores come back into line. Could be damaged cores possibly? Or auto throttling if it thinks its overheating? Just guessing.

hi guys,

sadly I seem to have exhausted my options :( back at stock at TAT is showing cpu 1 at 2400 and cpu 0 at 1600. temps are 30's arrrrgh ( aimed at chip not at anyone reading lol )

your multi is turned down... I thought that you had disabled speedstep and all of that?...

ok still no joy

decided to strip the system down, removed cooler + cpu + cmos battery + ram. replaced cpu no obvious signs i.e discolouration of ihs, replaced mx5 and cooler, replaced cmos battery ( after about 30 mins ) and on rebooting it was all clear.

decided to clock to 8 x 400 stock volts for 3200. cpu -z and core temp showing it as 3200. tat showing as core 0 1800 core 1 3200. sigh

ok obviously nothing else I can do, so in conclusion it's a borked cpu or a borked mobo. problem is which is it most likely to be? just started prime and all's well so far. if I leave prime running overnight and it doesn't fail would that point to the motherboard ?

I really don't want to replace both so if anyone can take an educated guess as to which part needs replacing it'd help, I'm hoping it is the motherboard as it's only £40 and still under warranty as opposed to the cpu which was pre owned and set me back £100 3 months ago.

Thanks to any and all that've tried to assist me it's much apprecitated.
