Low performance from my Asus 4850?

number of things to check , 1: is your cpu limiting your gfx, 2: is your psu giving it enough juice, 3: driver problem, 4: overheating(probably not)

1.Surely quad core 2.4 isn't but maybe, 2. Wonder how i would check this ? my Psu is 700w but i don't know if it's working properly, 3. Guna download the catalyst drivers and have a see, it's running at 49 idle and 65 under load

you updated the drivers, also, you can rma it, there is always the possibility that you were unlucky and got a dodgy card! because i get better fps than that and i have only a c2d e6300

Before you do, I would remove the drivers completely, reboot into safe mode, then run Driver Cleaner Pro and reboot again, then install a fresh set of the latest drivers. Just to rule out any interferance from remnants of old drivers etc.

Just rang and the guy from Overclockers suggested just about the same thing however driver cleaner pro isn't as good as sweeper imo, btw how do i set it to boot into safe mode?

To get to safe mode, usually keep pressing F8 when it boots up.


On some mobos that initiates a boot-up window, so you might have to select a drive to boot from, and then keep pressing F8 to get to safe mode.

Just to correct myself Driver Sweeper won't remove any drivers grrr:
Cannot create file "C:\Program Files\DriverSweeper\Logs\08-07-04-09-09-29.txt". Access is denied
 
So it's all fixed and working properly now then ?

You're welcome :) ...the reason I suggested that you go into 'safe mode' is becaues if you aren't, certain files can either be in use by Windows or they can be protected. Safe mode will only load basic legacy drivers and such, so you can mess around with the others and indeed remove them etc if you need to.

Hmm well i need to get some drivers not sure whether to get Beta's 1.7 or Hotfix? Then i shall bench and report back :)
