ive got diskeeper and when i analyze my C: drive i have low performing system files.
ive just clicked on defragment C: but they are still low performing system files.
what can i do to improve these files?

If it's the freeware version, run a defrag in safe mode. If it's a purchased version, run a boot time defrag.

I'm assuming it can't defrag some files because they're in use. Doing one of the above should defrag these files.

Hi there,

Is there much difference between the free version and the purchased version?

If there is....what?....Of Diskeeper that is

Thanks...

[edit]

what is the latest version of the free version

With the retail version you can enable "Set it and forget it". This defrags the drive automatically for you; you define the parameters for this, i.e.when to do it. You can schedule boot time defrags to defrag the files that are normally in use when your in windows. I think it also gets rid of the splash screen that you get with the freeware version.

The last official freeware version is v7.0 Build 418, and is available from here http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=1207

A freeware edition of v9 can be got from the Intel site. Intel® Desktop Utilities, available from http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/software/idu/, contains a number of useful tools, Diskeeper v9 being one of them. This download weighs in at 89MB and is a self extracting zip file. Once you've unzipped it, look in the 3rd Party folder and Diskeeper v9 is in there.

If you don't have an Intel system, just use the Diskeeper s/w and non of the other Intel specific utilities.

EDIT:If you have an earlier version of Diskeeper on your system, make sure you remove this before you install the newer version!!

Just to rectify before I install, I have an AMD system and its ok to install the diskeeper in the Intel package so long as I dont install anything else....right?

Conrad11, yes, just install the Diskeeper s/w. I've installed this version on my system and it's not Intel specific.
