hi, i remember there used to a time where atom and things like the E350 and E450 existed, am i being blind but arent there newer versions? i know there is something wrong with my HTPC and realise it will have to be replaced soonish and i was thinknig maybe go low power consumption. im not sure if id actually want to go super low power as id worry about porformance but i dont see anything newer that is v low power. i suspect id be more interested in the AMD parts as id expect intel gpu at that range to suck.

so i remember the E450 and E350 but i dont see anything newer in that power range. am i missing something here, arent either of them doing low power stuff anymore?

The Celeron/Pentium lines from Sandy Bridge onwards made them pretty much redundant, power usage may be a bit higher when under full load but they perform 3-4 faster on CPU related tasks and slightly better in GPU related ones. They're much better performance per watt.

Intel also offer low power chips if you're that obsessed about usage but you have to pay a premium for those.

AMD don't seem to offer any super low power desktop chips atm?

ta for the input. had a search and found the Celeron 847 which seemed to fit my low power demand and be enough to playback 1080p which is about the most taxing thing id ever ask of it. i think i would have rathered AMD as i much more trust them them when it comes to integrated gpu's but the celeron was dirt cheap compared to finding an old E450 board.
