Hi there,

I need a low power media player + codecs solution for my low powered machine.

Just need something to be able to play divx, xvid, ac3, mp3, dvd with as few cpu cycles as possible.

Media player doesn't need any features, but needs to do be able to play the above.

I have been looking at VLC player - looks pretty decent for cpu usage, but wondered if there was anything better? (lower cpu requirement)

What do you recommend?

Thanks.

Wouldn't have thought so. It just installs the codecs and the media player would be the one using the CPU power. I'd say its a comparison only between VLC and MPC say. The codecs shouldn't be affecting cpu usage. :)

Most of the simple media players like VLC and MPC will use very little power playing them kind of files. What exactly do you mean by low power and why do you need it to use as little CPU as possible? I play DVDs and Xvids etc on my old P3 450MHz easily enough.

Well i want to create a front end for a low end player, so i need most of the cpu cycles for the front end.

I am running a 1Ghz Mini Itx system.
