Hi all,

So I took the plunge and paid for a lifetime subscription to Roon!!! I know, I know..

So basically I use my PC (spec in sig) to watch Youtube, Kodi and Music. Only really gaming for an hour or so on the weekend at most along with other more intense stuff every now and then.

I figured it makes sense to get a low powered mini/thin client of some sorts (I was thinking of making a Hackintosh just because)

Things I need..

I want to leave it on 24/7 to make use of the new Roon Arc app.

I would need HDMI 2.0 for 4k 60fps to TV

HEVC/X265 playback.

I think that's about it really. Can I get away with something like this of the bay Dell Optiplex 3040 7040 i7-6th 1TB SSD 32GB RAM Mini Desktop PC Win10/11 4K HDMI running a i5 6th gen?

I know it does not have HDMI 2.0 but would a Display port to HDMI adaptor allow 4k 60hz HDR?

I suppose I wouldn't NEED 60hz but wouldn't the desktop look weird at a lower refresh?

If I can not do it fairly cheaply then it does not make much sense I would just carry on using the main PC and maybe get a SBC/something like that Dell and just put Roon Rock on it but that feels like a waste because that's all it would do.

More than happy to go 2nd hand here by the way.

Thanks,
Sean

How are you finding Roon? I'm tempted before the price rise...

Shame the ARC app doesn't appear to support any DAPs

For kodi a android box is plenty decent enough. Easier to get native refresh, auto switching refresh, HDR, Atmos, DTS X etc

Mini PC for a "HTPC" or a PC connected to the monitor etc.

Roon is really great had it for years. Use it to stream to zones all round my house. It can unfold mqa if your equipment is not able to and is incredibly easy to use.

I use it for streaming both Tidal and my home music server stuff. Very reliable.

Pity it's a stupidly £800 lifetime fee.

I've tried it with the Squeezeboxes, pretty cool but not worth the £800 price over LMS.
