My car, a 2000 W Seat toledo V5, has an issue when cold starting, it will idle fine on startup, but when i increase the throttle it stutters and gets no higher than about 2K. When warmed up it revs fine, but when driving at low revs it seems very hesistant and low on power. Went to the garage today as it had a Lambda probe error, which they replaced but did not fix the problem. I had it serviced a few weeks ago and they thought that it had not had a service for many years as the drive belts were perished and the spark plugs was seriously carbonised. They did all the usual service stuff, but didnt change the fuel filter, now if the fuel filter hadnt been changed for a long time could this cause this problem? I have read that a fuel filter if dirty can lead to poor cold running and also at low revs, i guess as fuel is not being forced through as fast at low revs. Anyway do any of you think this could be an issue or perhaps the coil packs etc?

Could be the MAF, just after the air filter there is a sensor that plugs into the air intake - unplug it and see if it makes a difference. I havent heard of it affecting V5's but it had similar (but not quite so severe affects) on my 1.8 20v Toledo.

If its the MAF it will run better with it unpluged and its only about £65 to exchange it.

I may get them to try that, i had thought about a dodgy MAF, but assumed that it would show up on the diagnostics, just checked service history on the car and cant see when they changed the fuel filter last.
