Hi gfx community! I am looking for a card to replace onboard HD 2000 with an i5-2400.

I was looking at a gt 730 but reading around its the gddr5 version which is vastly superior bit I was hoping for a quiet version. Even then a lot of what I have read suggests the gt 730 is not a good card. I'm not a heavy gamer and certainly won't be looking to run any new games. Just want something to handle to occasional 30mins on older steam games (assassins creed one, maybe batman arkham asylum/city.

Or are there other alternatives? I have a 300W power supply so card would need to draw power direct from motherboard.

Any thoughts? Is the 730 my only option? Would a cheaper passively cooled ddr3 version really bother me?

Many thanks!!

How much money is your budget? That depends, because around the same price range the RX460 is 3 times faster than the gazillion years old GT 730
Or you can grab good second hand cards.

the ZOTAC GeForce GTX 750Ti 2GB GDDR5 going for that budget new, £50 to £60. Quiet and low power. Seen on a website named after a rainforest.

Really?? From what I can see it twice that and 400w psu requirement :(

Seen a lot of comments saying it will work on a 300w but hopefully someone on here has tried it

PSU. ZOTAC GeForce GTX 750Ti 2GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 DVI HDMI DisplayPort Video Graphics Card (ZT-70605-10M)

^thats the full title of where it is listed.

750ti draws 75w, I used to have one that powered directly from the pci slot with no additional power cable. It also had an entirely passive cooler and was. A great oc'er! I sold it for £60 recently so they may be in your price range. Palit kalm-X

Ohhhhh all very interesting! Thank you! I'd love the passively cooled one but seems like its an ask to find one in my budget!

You should be able to pick up a 750ti for £50, all of the regular ones run off PCIe power so power supply shouldn't be an issue, whilst you probably wont find a Kalm X in budget most of them are cool running, hence quiet, cards.

I personally would avoid the rainforest seller, no feedback, new seller, selling nothing but GPU's including the latest models at half price, with £3.99 delivery direct from the states?

Smells fishy to me, or I've just spent £200 more than I should have on my 1070.

I would say AVOID and buy from Overclockers.

yeah I was just recommending what I have seen after a quick search. Im sure he can find one around the same place somewhere else.

Best you'll get for 50 is a 7850 from the mm

It won't power direct from motherboard with a 300w PSu though will it.

By far the best option would be one of the more conservative 750's or 750 ti, was in the same boat myself some time back with a V-350w PSU budget system.

Thing is though, even though the 750's are cheap, the PSU still has to be able to deliver the required power.

I can't find much info on the psu but it appears to have a maximum of 257w across a pair of 12v rails. The gpu power is on it's own 12v rail while the cpu/motherboard etc is on the other. I did find a review where they overloaded the psu and got a maximum of 157w per rail but not both at the same time. For safety sake figure the rails to be around 120w each.

Immense skills there! It's an all in one so I'd imagine the auxiliary power connector is running the monitor?? I can't get in to take a look.

So pastymuncher, are you saying a 750ti would demand too much from the motherboard?
