Low power quiet graphics card?

I would probably not risk it. You may be better off finding one that takes a 6 pin connector which would at least split the load across both 12v rails. Did the psu come with a Silverstone Sugo SG 05 or similar? That's what most references on the net link it to. I would replace it but being a SFF psu it's going to cost more than a standard size psu.

I think the 6 pin may possibly be powering the monitor - sound possible?

Or are there other alternatives? I have a 300W power supply so card would need to draw power direct from motherboard.

The Radeon RX 460 is your friend. A fanless version has been released but I've not spotted it in OCUK's stock. Failing that there's the Geforce GTX 750 Ti. Both cards will run fine off a 300W PSU and take their current from the PCI Express slot.

Don't forget that the 300W figure is the PSU's output, not its maximum draw from the wall. If it's 80% efficient you'll see a max draw of 375W.

I'm thinking my psu won't cope ?? Bearing in mind, however, the max 70W draw for my system also includes the mobotor maybe it might work?

Edit just saw it needs separate power connector.
Make sure what you get does not want a 6 pin power connector, Most 750ti's do, The EVGA 750ti SC doesn't but will cost more even secondhand, Maybe you can find a 750 in budget.
Also, ignore the G-sync compatible info, The only 750ti's with the required displayport are the EVGA SC & FTW models.

EDIT: Just noticed your edit :)

When I was looking for a graphics card for my old system with 300w(sold now) it was suggested the 7750 being the best you can get, I had an older 9500gt in my when it sold, so didn't get round to testing, but maybe that's what you should be looking for?

The gtx 750 is very good for what it is and should work find also, i had a 350w with mine though.

A 750 or 750ti Be a good buy ,new or 2nd hand , i know some 750ti's dont require any PCI-e connectors ,just run off the motherboard connector.

The Amazon Rain forest trading posts , A place where any Any business Big or small or private sellers can setup & sale goods, it not one online shop .
I must say there are some sellers in the Amazon being monkeys gorillas or chimpanzees or even Live Dinosaurs , do tend to sale at high prices .

You can buy a 750 or a 750ti for £50 used, just have to look, though most of the 750 are 1gb versions.

I had a zotac 1gb 750 and was great till I fancied an upgrade and at the time(Jan/Feb) I sold it for £50, it was probably about 5 months ago I picked up a 2gb ti for £50 used, was a very good card also, but it was for testing certain games so I didn't keep long.

I'm assuming your computer doesn't have an upgrade path for the power supply? You can buy decent 350-500w for under £30 depending on brand on the used market, some people might even deal on a decent graphics card, Get on gum and have a look, eBay is slacking I think now, I usually buy from a particular shop or gum unless it's new items.
