Hi all,

I'm looking to get a low power / quiet server to use as a home NAS. Ideally looking for something with 4x3.5" drives and room for an SSD / boot drive. I intend to use Ubuntu with ZFS and set-up some shares over Samba, but I'd also like to play around with exporting ZVOL block devices over iSCSI to some other devices. I've no need for hardware RAID, and iLO / iDRAC etc. would be a nice to have rather than essential.

Not sure whether to go with the Gen 10 HP Microserver or go with a self build (possibly using one of the Supermicro C3000-series Atom boards, or one of the lower power Xeon-D boards) - the Microserver certainly looks like a cheaper option (even with RAM upgrades), but I don't know if the cheap dual core version is up to the task?

The Dell T30 also looks good (and seems to be well liked on here!), but its not obvious if you can get 5 drives in it without modding?
