Hi i know this is a dumb question but ill ask anyways:D

i,m after a gfx card to fit a desktop pc case the rear brackets on the case are half the size of normal gfx cards does this mean i need a low-profile card or is it another type i should be looking at ?

thanks

the pc i,ve just bought for £150 from a friend has a i5 650 with what looks like a intel board at the moment gfx must be running thro the cpu
but i,m having a few probs conecting to tv (tv switchs off after conecting the vga cable)
so i,m thinking buy a new gfx card with hdmi and hope that works

intels gfx drivers are pretty hopeless i have found so i would always recommend using a dedicated card for anything other than general pottering about on the web and office stuff.

lol

The H55 Chipset is one of the best for HTPC duties.

Read the anandtech article before posting crap

http://www.anandtech.com/show/2901/3

"For a HTPC there's simply none better than these new Clarkies. The on-package GPU keeps power consumption nice and low, enabling some pretty cool mini-ITX designs that we'll see this year. Then there's the feature holy-grail: Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD-MA bitstreaming over HDMI. If you're serious about building an HTPC in 2010, you'll want one of Intel's new Core i3s or i5s."

i don't need to read an anandtech review, i had an i3 530 on a msi h55 board and it just would not play a blu ray properly for love nor money, the audio always screwed up, it was the same on my g31 and g41 zotac itx boards.

anything other than the drivers from the manufacturers website and the machines wouldn't even display, with the updated drivers from intel's site as soon as they went to go into windows the screen would go black and i'd have to reboot in safe mode and install the ones from the msi or zotac sites again.

Before my i3 530 became my WHS in worked flawlessly with BD playback over HDMI and XBMC

I apologise if it came over taught mate.

no worries mate, but 3 times i have tried and 3 times i have failed with blu ray and intel gfx so i have a hard time recommending them, i don't know what it is but i just can't get them to seem to work for me.

they played just about all other media fine, but with power dvd 8 blu ray edition the picture would be fine and for a while the audio would be great then every now and again the static would be like i suddenly had a giant waterfall in my livingroom :(

in the end i just gave up on them and got the amd itx board which i am now selling in the MM and everything was perfect with that.

i know technically the intel gfx should be able to play them great it has just never happened for me :(

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I need to remember that evryone's setup is different.

Having said that did you try playing ISO images of BD rips?
