I've got a DFI RDX 200 mobo with an x1900xt in the top pci-e slot.
I've noticed that the NB cooler does seem to spin up a lot and this becomes annoyingly loud at times ...

Was just wondering if there is any kind of NB cooler thats passive and low profile as i can't fit one of the Zalman passive coolers on due to the x1900's size :o

Any ideas :)

I just got a lan party nf4 ultra d with probably the same type of nb sink/fan. Since I'm not aware of any low profile "zalman" type passive heatsinks either what I plan to do is first of all remove the existing nb sink and apply AS5, reseat it and then simply rig up an 80mm fan to blast air at that location in the hope that the temperature will be kept low such that the nb fan does not have to spin up to full speed. I heard just applying the AS5 can knock 10'C off the NB temp on its own.

Cheers mate, I would just apply a bit of AS5 too but seeing as i only just unplugged everything to fit the Arctic Freezer to the mobo i don't really fancy going through all the fuss again right now - but i shall think about gettin some more airflow to that region of the case !

It is true that it does only spin up when it's particularly warm so if i could knock the ambient temp down a tad it'd help no end i'd imagine :)
