Hi,

I'm looking for a half decent low profile pci express graphics card. What do you guys recommend? Budget is around £50-70

I'll need to cut the backing plate? Surely they make cards that already have the low profile backing plate? I'll be using it for a bit of gaming, but I'm not looking for perfection.

It'll be used on an Intel Core2 Duo 2.33ghz with 2gb ram if it helps!

I can't think of a low profile card that would be worth it with gaming. Source games, yes, no problem, most new games- think again. Geforce GT220 or radeon 4550 are all I can think of.

Nah, I was just kidding with cutting the card.

Here you have some low profile Radeon 5670s:

What case do you fit it in?

OP, did you buy one in the end?

I am just after a similar one to go with the following PC so I can use it just for Age of Empires 3 at LAN games (portable option instead of my usual PC)

HP Compaq dc7600 Small Form Factor (black/silver)
Intel Pentium 4HT 3.00 GHz (2 CPUs)
1 Gb RAM PC4200 (2 x 512 Mb sticks, 2 free slots)
80 Gb HD
Intel 82945G express chipset with onboard sound and graphics (128 Mb)

Well the lineup at the moment has a new "best" in the form of the 5570 low profile. Everywhere seems to be preorder for March delivery (launched yesterday) and it's quite a long way from cheap. Roughly as good as a 4670.

The cards which are available are led by the GT220, price depends on the model you get.

I'm considering selling the GT220 1GB DDR3 I bought less than a month ago and looking at the 5570 (e-peen and all that...) it's vastly better than any integrated chip.

*edit: decided to put it up for sale: click

Just to update:

I bought myself an Asus ATI 4550 for £35 and upon installation with cats 10.1, the improvements are amazing.
Before, my 3dmark06 score was sub 200 and it has now shot up to 2900! I have installed AoE3 and it seems ok at moderate graphics.
The requirements indicated a 300W PSU but the pc only had 240W but I haven't had problems when benchmarking on 3dmark so far. Before, the pc peaked at 130W under load, and reviews suggest 40W used by the card. I will check the actual load power use and post here again.

The reasons I didn't go for anything better: price, increased PSU requirements, and possibly other pc components already bottlenecking performance.
