At the same sort of price point what is better than this cooler? or is this what i should get.
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/raij...ile-120-black-cpu-cooler-120mm-hs-03a-rt.html

i have a max height of 8cm

i am wanting to cool a skylake i5 with an overclock
the i5 as been de-lidded and liquid metaled, its a very cool running chip.
the usage will be very light gaming

i like the look of the Cryorig C7 but it looks to be very restricted unit in terms of air flow.

Looking at reviews you are not going to get any better without spending considerably more money. The C7 performs a couple of degrees worse with a stock 4790k and 6 degrees worse with a [email protected] in the reviews that compares them both. The thing that lets the Pallas down seems to be the low profile fan so maybe swap that for a 25mm fan if it will fit with enough space for it to get air through it.

that's super, when i looked at the price it did look to be best i just wanted a second opinion.

The GPU is in a vertical mount so the most room i have is 8cm, i think a 25mm fan should fit. the cooler is 67mm including the 12mm fan..

would i be better with the 12mm fan that as a little room for air flow, or a 25mm fan that as next to not room for air flow.
the GPU would cover about 30% of the fan.

i have tested the GPU moved out to the next slot but then its up against the glass panel and GPU temps go nuts 55c to 77c in games.

I think that if the gpu is only covering 30% of the fan it's worth a try with the 25mm fan (the cooler is facing the rear of the gpu and not the cooler I presume). You could always give it a go with the thin fan and then the 25mm fan to compare temps. Just remember to buy before next Wednesday lunchtime as the price will go back up when new offers start.

Deepcool actually do a 120x20mm fan, the GS120 which could be a option. They are around £14 though so half the price of the cooler itself. The specs are:-

Overall Dimension 120×120×20mm
Net Weight 110g
Bearing Type Hydro Bearing
Rated Voltage 12VDC
Operating Voltage 10.8~13.2VDC
Started Voltage 7VDC
Rated Current 0.21±10%A(MAX)
Power Input 2.52W
Fan Speed 900±150-1800±10%RPM
Fan Connectors 4-pin for motherboard & 4-pin for PSU
Max. Air Flow 61.93CFM
Noise 18.2~32.4dB
EAN 6933412712176
P/N DPGS-FGS-GS120

As said, a 25mm thick fan will increase airflow, though probably not needed.

I would reverse fan so it is pulling air up from motherboard through cooler and away instead of down toward motherboard where it turns out, hits RAM, GPU, etc. and turns up along side of cooler and fan were it is drawn back into fan.

Years ago I tested Thermalright AXP-100 push and pull and got 5-8c lower CPU tmeps with fan flowing air away from motherboard instead of toward motherboard. ;)

My only compliant against Cryorig C7 is fan cannot be easily reversed. :p

Thicker fans usually have higher pressure ratings meaning they can overcome resistance (fins, etc) and thus flow more air at lower rpm than thin fans. Other than that there is no difference.
