Ok so a while ago i was looking around for ages to get the best low profile graphics card for my incredibly thin dell dimension c521 *waits to be slated*. I came across a low profile galaxy tech 8600gt. Unfortunatley no one seemed to stock them :(.

Anyway after lots of searching i found a club x1650. Considering i had a 128mb x1300 i considered a x1650 256mb a worthwhile upgrade. However, when i plonked the card in and installed the latest catalyst drivers there was barely any fps improvement, maybe 5fps. I was still getting a lame average 30-35fps in counter strike source on high settings bar 2x AA and no AF. After hearing my mate with an x800 was getting over 60fps with top settings i think somethings up.

My full system specs are

2 gigs 533 ddr2
AMD sempron 1.8
256mb x1650 and then a load of dell things ^^.

So any suggestions at to why the low performance. From what i'd heard the x1650 series was supposed to be alright. Or is 35 fps about right?

Your friend probably wasn't using a sempron processor, also the x800 and x1600 are basically the same card from what I remember just higher memory on the x1600 series. Don't quote that for exact truth I was never very up on the ati cards but to my knowledge they are very similar chips.

well might be some help i had some low profile cards in that i had to install in to dell pcs and they were x1650 256 mb ( 64 bit ) well slow x1650 are ment to be 128 bit.

no they dont. Infact i can whop everything up to max and it stays pretty much the same. Just not HDR or full AF. But lots of AA and high res it seems to not differ too much.

yeah i thought it could well be the case. Oh well should be buying a new system 6 months time. Might get q6600 when it goes cheap :). 1 thing to mention though, is that i know a guy who has a GTX and a 2ghz sempron. and he still gets 200fps on css. Seems like the cpu aint bottlenecking :s. Mind you its a ruddy powerful card ^^.
