Low Spec gaming laptop?

Hi guys,
just trying to find a laptop for a friends son, he's at uni and used to play games on his old laptop, clearly low spec games, things like football manger and red alert buy the looks of the data i pulled off the hard drive.
anyone put forward a suggestion or two for a mid range laptop that he can use at uni to work on and play the odd game.
 
not to sure really, i was gonna try and find a few and present her with some options, i guess around £500 if that's possible!
