Hi all.

I have a mate who has an old laptop connected to a decent netgear wireless router via a wi-fi card. Now i've had a look because he says his net is very slow. His wi-fi signal is always very very low, even when the card is right next to the router. The net just seems to go dog slow, then crash totally. When you take the wi-fi card out the laptop then plug it back in, the net seems to work again.

Would you say this is the router, or down to a rubish wi-fi adapter? Sorry i can't remember what brand the wi-fi adaper is.

Is there one you would reccomend me try out?

Probably the wifi adapter. Try updating the drivers and trying someone elses USB adaptor.

can also try connecting from another wifi device and see if it's the same.

I'll either bring his laptop home and see how the signal is with my router, or take my router up there, then i can see which one is as fault.
