Hey,

I'm looking for a bundle to speed up my current PC. I've not had to buy a pc for a good few years now and would like your assistance.

Primary use is VMWare Workstation, internet, email, word etc. I play some games, FallOut3, CSS etc. My key requirement is having 8GB ram.

Unfortunately I can't buy from OcUK as the shipping and duty would cripple me. :(.

Here's a bundle on a Canadian website:
  • MSI 785GM-P45 Motherboard
  • AMD Athlon II X4 630 Quad Core Processor
  • MSI R5450-MD1G ATI Radeon HD 5450 Video Card
  • Cooler Master RC-310-RWN1-GP Elite 310 Mid-Tower Case
  • 350 Watts Power Supply

Is this any good? It is $300 Canadian so around 200 pounds (boy the exchange rate is good!!!!).

Would I be better off pricing something else?

Cheers for any pointers. :)

What brand is the PSU? And that 5450 will be no good for gaming... not sure how much it is in Canada but the 5570 is about £10 extra.

Everything else seems fine but you left out the RAM, so I'm assuming you already have the 8gb RAM?

No I don't have the ram. It isn't part of this bundle. RAM is pretty cheap $40 for 4 GB (2X2GB).

I think I'll buy the components separately and look at the 5570. What would be a minimum graphics card to play the latest games in a decent ish manner? I currently have a ATi x1600 which I think is pretty basic now. lol

How do you rate the CPU and motherboard?

Cheers for the pointers. :)

I'm guessing you're going to add that 2x2gb to your current RAM then? Because if you plan to overclock the CPU, 2x4gb will allow you to reach higher clocks.

Personally I say a 5670 is the minimum, it runs fine for my brother in 1440x900 in medium detail in most games. But it will suffer in bigger resolutions so if you have something like a 1920x1080 monitor then a 5770 at least, 460 if budget allows.

Motherboard seems fine, doesn't looks so bad. The Athlon II 630 is not so bad either. But if you're overclocking then maybe try get a 620 instead? Should be able to reach 3.4ghz no problems. If you don't plan to overclock then just get the 630.

I hadn't considered overclocking actually. :o.

I have a 1080p monitor and may invest in a better graphics card. It would be nice to play some of the newer games.
