Lowering cam changeover on VTEC/VVTI engines

My cam changeover is currently at 6200rpm but by dropping the changeover to 5500rpm means that I can get that quicksilver screaming for longer

To be honest though I don't mind the 6200rpm changeover, the Elise is such a light car it has instant throttle response so you never feel like you're hanging around waiting for that 2nd cam anyway.

they only feel less torquey below 6.2 because of the change in power you get over 6.2...

If it didnt have the 2nd cam and red lined at 7k you'd feel the engine was plenty pokey enough, but that sudden burst of power gives the impression of nothing below 6.2, which simply isnt true.

That's what the 111S guys say too. They reckon that the 111R lacks power below 6200rpm but when you compare the S and R on a graph they're the same below 6200 but it's after that when the 111R goes mental and makes a load more power. It's that extra power that gives the illusion that it's gutless below 2nd cam when it's just not.

is the S a standard VVT-i then and the R a VVTL-i?

(ie 140 & 190 BHP?)

Nope, the S is just a K series Rover but below 6200rpm the power and torque graphs are almost identical.

I think thats changed/ in the process of changing and the S is now the toyota vvti 140bhp engine, just to confuse things :p

Yeah, the new Elise S (replacing the 111S) is the Toyota engine. The Elise R replaces the 111R and has the "proper" screamer engine

Get a decent exhaust as your first mod, 2nd cam is boring with the standard peashooter.

Its been fitted with a Janspeed exhaust so hopefully it'll sound nice! Not as crazy as the Stage 2 that was in one i testdrove tough

I find that my Quicksilver exhaust is pretty much how I want it, sporty up to 6200rpm but not intrusive, then it turns into a crazy axe wielding maniac after that.

Apparently the weather tomorrow is looking good so I'm goona fill up with Optimax and just drive until I'm empty again :D

It's official now.

T4 or T4e ECU with Program £795.00 + VAT

For further information please contact your local Lotus Cars Dealer.

However I don't think I'll be paying LOTUS £795+VAT for a replacement ECU (the flash is only applicable to the later cars, mine's an 04 :()
I'll wait until Emerald release a fully programmable ECU instead.

Yep, I post at Philz on every other board apart from this one. I guess I might change my nick on here someday just to confuse people

iirc you were philz on here years ago?

Are they having a laugh? That's hardly worth bothering with.

4250rpm is where you want the party to start. :)

There's 2 types of ECU, I'm pretty sure mine is the unflashable one so it'll cost me £795+VAT if I want the new map.

If it turns out that mine is the other type then I think I'll get the remap otherwise I'll just wait until a proper ECU is released which might even increase the power too.

Nope, not yet. This is the only current option.

Some guys over in America appear to making good progress but there's nothing over here yet.

Checked my ECU last night and surprisingly enough it's the "A" version which means I can't reflash it, only replace it at a cost of £934 :(

I've just emailed Emerald to see when their ECU replacement is gonna be ready, I've heard rumours that before Christmas is possible. I'd much rather spend £550 on an full replacement aftermarket ECU + rolling road time than give Lotus nearly a grand for a simple 500rpm change.
