A friend is looking at buying a PC and I have offered to build him one if he wants. He will not be playing games at all and the PC will be used for office applications, internet and itunes etc. He has no kit at all, and although no fixed budget, would like to spend as little as possible whilst still getting a good machine. How low can you go?

Cheers

Better just going with an off the shelf one with warrenty and support if it isn't for gaming, less hassle for you and your friend.

Yeah I agree, tried to build a low spec pc for someone

and when you take into account os and warranty it was cheaper to

buy off the shelf.

Cheers guys. To be honest, I was coming to that conclusion myself. It appears that the margin, which you are effectively claiming back when you build yourself, is much smaller at the ower end and negates most of the cost benefit. I will advise accordingly...
