Is there any cooler for 5870 which doesnt take any more space then the default one? :P

Is there anyway to make my graphic sound less and still use crossfire (max 2 slots per card)? Ghetto mod? extra fan? anything creative?

depending on how much money you have, watercooling could be the answer, because you can often get single slot water blocks. also, a watercooled computer is usually a lot quieter than air cooled

however, if the output sockets take up two slots, then theres nothing you can do about it, the card will take up two slots. im guessing they dont though, otherwise you wouldnt be asking

*edit*
im sure that when i read that he asked for a single slot cooler. nvm

Scythe Setsugen. Better than stock cooling but no match for 3/4 slot designs. The Scythe uses a heatsink coupled with a then 120mm fan.

If you have a PCI-E slot 8x/16x further away you might be able to install at least a larger cooler to the top warmer card and have the two slot Setsugen to the bottom card, if you have sufficient case room.

I have an Asus Rampage III Gene Micro-Atx motherboard. Ony two 16x pcie available. So i only have 2 slots per card.and it cant be any taller nor longer. what can i do?
Am i truely screwed? I cannot afford watercooling atm :l

I've got a Setsugen II and it takes up no more space than a standard double slot card. I've got mine with a soundcard directly below it with no issues. It cools hugely better than the stock Palit cooler that was on before, but then so does a mouse farting.

Setsugen II Review:
"As we see, only the closest PCI-Express slot will be blocked by the installed graphics card, but I am sure you all understand that you shouldn’t install any full-size expansion cards in it even if you could, because it will block the airflow to the graphics card and most likely will affect the cooling efficiency."

Seems as if i place another 5870 there with the same cooler, stuff will get hot hot? :(
But if i place two 5870 in crossfire with regular coolers they will get hot as hell anyway? :/

PCI-E flexible slot riser perhaps to give yourself a bit more clearance and fix the card further down in your case to an empty expansion slot, assuming of course you haven't got a silly mATX case with no further expansion slots.

Aftermarket coolers will vent into your case too so you'll need to consider the extra heat in your case.

Micro atx yes, thats the problem :P
Custom chassi
Micro atx motherboard
The problem i see is the cooler is loud, it spins at 33% at maxiumum load and reaches 85 degrees (it dont get warmer then 85). I just want to make it a bit less nosier

If i change something i can fit it into an 4x pci slot? if it fits? losing performance? = better air flow and space

Ghetto PCI riser mod...

Looking at your motherboard a flexible riser will work provided you have a little clearance at the bottom of the motherboardand can squeeze the card and cooler in.

4x slot will reduce the Crossfire performance by 20-30%.

I think you'll struggle to exhaust the heat made by two 5870s from within that chassis though.

Honestly I'd stick with the stock coolers and create a custom fan profile in MSI Afterburner to run them hotter but quieter.

Ye i have accully seen that ghetto thingy, does it work? I need to buy an pcie thing to put it on? :S
But then i need a longer crossfire bridge? Or how long are the default ones?

If you didnt check out my whole build log i linked, here are some pics from it: (the build is not perfect, im just 16 after all :P)

PCI express riser, something like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Flexible-PCI-E-PCI-Express-16x-Riser-Card-Extender-/350345499336

OcUK don't supply this sort of thing so shouldn't be against rules to point towards it.

Yeah I saw your 'case' and that's what prompted me to warn you about the heat from two 200w 5870 cards being dumped into that tiny space. Warm it will become, oh yes.

Mm we will see how it works :l
Atm my alone 5870 gets the same temps as it did in my old huge "gaming" good cooled chassis .D

Ye that PCIE thing may actually work :P
I made a "nice" photoshop pic for you

The intake things are 80mm holes with dustfilters mounted on them, either intake or exhaust really :P

Think they will get nice temps? I could fit an 80mm fan in the air-intake on the buttom of the pic = win? What to you think? ^^

I suppose you could fit some fans exernally to the case as I doubt any would fit inside.

Oh one thing you need to consider is the height of the setsugen over the stock cooler.

---Image seems not to be working---

Here you can see how much it overhangs the HD4890 PCB which will be similar sized to the 5870 in height, I'd imagine.

Then i need to make a big hole and the cooler will be a couple of cm taller then the case it self, going to lock quite cool or reallystupid. Do you recommend it? are the metal fins going to be rageing hot after some furmark and are they going to burn my poor fingers as i touch them ;(

I don't think you need to worry about scalding yourself on them, the fan is supposed to allow the heat to be moved away from the metal surface into the surrounding air. Active coolers don't tend to get nearly as hot as their passive brethren.

Your case already looks totally ghetto, especially with that external PSU. It might look a bit strange but maybe you can build an enclosure around the graphics card area. You could even ghetto a separate compartment for them if you use risers.

I might actually give it a go then :0, what are risers? ^^

You can get longer ones. Not sure what the longest is but I've seen 100mm ones for sale at a certain auction site.
