lo all

Since putting my PC in an Eclipse, I've noticed that my motherboard has issues seating my X1900 in the top 16x slot correctly. I may have had the issue in my previous case, but it was made of steel, so was more solid.

Anyway, I have an Evercool VC-RE mounted on my chipset, which I was recommended as it was apparently the exact same height of the original. I've noticed that the card is touching the Evercool when inserted, which leads me to believe that the card is not 100% inserted.

It does work, but if I knock my PC, such as the knock of the sidepanel being attached, my PC sometimes freezes. Upon rebooting, I'm greeted with the beep code "long beep, short beep short beep". The pc will refuse to POST until I put a small amount of pressure on the power connector end of the card, to reseat it in the slot.

What can I do to work around this problem? Do I need to find myself an even shallower Chipset cooler? Can the lower 16x slot be used without detriment? (I'm aware that this slot can only function at 8x)

Thanks for any help in advance :D

Nope, no clip :( My old Asus A7N8X had a clip on the AGP slot, why can't DFI do the same :(

What can I replace the Evercool with? Or is there a way I can hold my X1900 in the slot, so it doesn't come up at the far end, freezing the display (and probably causing damage in some way)

is your board warping in the middle? so that the card doesnt go all the way in.

that chipset cooler will be fine.

the bottom slot is ~200 points diff in 3d mark 05 (so basically nothing)

No, my board isn't warping in the middle...well it didn't look like it was when assembled on the tray before it went in the case :) My X1900 is slightly bent from the stock cooler, but it's much better with the VF-900 installed.

I took the card out just now and took a look if the VC-RE is rising above the slot...it is. I don't have an exact measurement, but I rested a PCI blanking plate on the heatsink, and across the slot...the bracket floated above the slot by at least a couple of mm's, as I could rock the bracket on the heatsink slightly.

I'm not sure why everyone says the VC-RE is the same height as the stock cooler. I sat them both next to each other on my desk before installing it...it is definitely slightly taller than the stock one!

I took a look at the card in its slot, at the small notches on the PCI slot. The notch nearest the edge of the board, the card is sitting on fine, but the one nearer the other end, the card is about 2-3mm above, as the card is resting on the VC-RE.

hmm thats a bit unfortunate :(
was gonna buy a bulk load of those cooler in too. luckily i didnt :p .

cant you put the old cooler back on? if you have a fan blowing in that direction it normally stays at a very low rpm

I wasn't fussed about the temps with the original cooler, I replaced it as it kept getting stuck, requiring a push to get it spinning again (usually this happened while I was out, god knows how hot the chipset got!), and when it did spin, it made an awful "I'm an old fan" howling noise, so it had to be replaced! This happening on a less than 2 month old board was awful, bad DFI!

I can imagine the issue is only prominent with some cases, unfortunately the Eclipse, as cards sit slightly different in some cases I've found. I never had a problem with it in my Yeong Yang, but then, that case was steel...

I'd like to avoid putting the card in the lower slot, as it will increase noise as theres a soundcard in the bottom PCI slot. Also due to the tiny performance detriment, though its nothing serious really!

I was going to get a Crossfire board anyway, but they all seem to have a collection of issues which get in the way! For the moment I'd like to just use this board, and change the heatsink, but I can't find anything really suitable.

Theres the Thermalright HR-05 SLi, but no doubt it's expensive! And it's large, I can't find anywhere that states how tall the plate the is mounted to the board is.
